Pleasant Bay
The Village of Pleasant Bay is a fishing town with some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The view is majestic as the mountains come down to meet the sea. The harbor is small and filled with brightly painted commercial fishing boats and a tiny fleet of whale watching cruises. Adjacent to the harbor is the Pleasant Bay Whale Interpretation Center with a huge twenty pound blue lobster. There are a variety of resturants, gift shops, and artisans to occupy most visitors. Beyond the immediate outskirts of town are a wide variety of hiking trails. Down the street from the squash facility is a favorite spot, out past the even smaller town of Red River, past the Buddist Monastery, Gampo Abbey, to the end of the gravel road above Pollets Cove. An incredible spot for a picnic or hike into Pollets Cove, it is amazing.
